Partnerships with Purpose: The People and Values Behind Gaia
At Gaia Retreat & Spa, sustainability is reflected in the choices we make every day. From the ingredients on our plates to the linen in our treatment rooms, we consider not only the quality of what we offer, but also the people and businesses behind it.
Our partnerships with Beacon Laundry, The SHIFT Project and NON World each bring a different perspective to this philosophy, connecting thoughtful hospitality with community support, creativity and wellbeing.
Beacon Laundry: Laundry with People in Mind
Fresh linen and towels are an essential part of the Gaia experience. Our partnership with Beacon Laundry brings an added layer of purpose to these everyday essentials. As a social enterprise, Beacon Laundry creates employment opportunities for people facing barriers to work, helping them develop skills and build pathways towards greater independence. By sourcing our linen and towels through Beacon, we support an organisation that places people at the heart of its work. It is a simple but meaningful way to extend our commitment to wellbeing beyond the retreat itself.

The SHIFT Project: Supporting Women Towards Independence
Our partnership with The SHIFT Project reflects a shared commitment to dignity, stability and long-term wellbeing. Based in Byron Bay, SHIFT is an independent charity supporting women through the challenges of moving from homelessness to independence and from welfare to wellbeing. Its holistic approach helps women work towards a more secure future, including through meaningful employment opportunities.
At Gaia, SHIFT launders our robes, along with the special doona covers and pillowcases used in our premium villas. Through this partnership, an essential part of preparing our spaces for guests also supports an organisation working to create positive change in the lives of women experiencing barriers to employment. SHIFT’s work is a reminder that wellbeing extends beyond the individual. It is also about creating the conditions for people to rebuild stability, develop confidence and move forward.
NON: A Different Take on Wine
Our approach to thoughtful hospitality also extends to what we serve at the table. Founded in Melbourne in 2019, NON reimagines the traditional wine experience through its range of non-alcoholic alternatives. Taking a chef-led approach to flavour, the brand creates complex, distinctive drinks that offer an alternative to conventional wine.
At Gaia, NON gives guests who prefer not to drink alcohol the opportunity to enjoy a considered drink alongside their meal, without missing out on the ritual of sharing a glass at the table. It is a partnership that reflects our appreciation for Australian makers who challenge convention and bring creativity to the dining experience.

Small Choices, Wider Impact
These partnerships sit alongside a broader approach to sustainability across Gaia.
Our organic gardens and orchards supply seasonal produce for the kitchen, while our resident bees help pollinate plants and support the surrounding ecosystem. We grow spray-free flowers on site, prioritise local producers and work to reduce waste through reuse, recycling and more considered purchasing.
We also partner with TeaGood, whose collaboration with Liberation Larder helps provide meals to people in need. Our commitment to local craftsmanship is reflected in our choice of Australian furniture maker Jardan and ceramics by local artist Brooke Clunie, whose studio is just 500 metres from the retreat.
Each of these choices serves a different purpose, but together they reflect a consistent approach: considering the wider impact of how we operate, what we offer and who we work with.
Sustainability is not about perfection. It is an ongoing process of learning, making better choices and finding opportunities to do more.
A Continuing Commitment to Care
Gaia has always been shaped by more than its gardens, treatments, cuisine and natural surroundings. It is also shaped by the people, producers and organisations that contribute to the experience.
Beacon Laundry and The SHIFT Project demonstrate how essential services can support meaningful social change, while NON brings creativity and choice to the table. Each partnership adds another dimension to our commitment to thoughtful hospitality.
We are grateful to work alongside organisations that bring their own purpose and perspective to what they do.
Because caring for people and caring for the planet are closely connected. Both begin with the choices we make every day.
