Restore your body’s energy flow with Reflexology.
When you’re stressed, run down or suffering from physical and emotional traumas, the energy flowing in your body can get blocked. It’s important to unblock energy stagnation within your body to relieve symptoms of pain, sickness and anxiety and to restore the healthy flow and balance of your body… Reflexology is a relaxing & soothing treatment that does exactly that!
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an effective complementary therapy performed by certified Reflexology practitioner. The treatment applies thumb pressure to the feet or hands to stimulate energy flow in the body, relieving you of stress and anxiety whilst addressing weaknesses and imbalances in your body.
How does Reflexology work?
Similar to acupuncture and acupressure, it works by removing energy blockages in the meridians (energy pathways) and restores balance in the body. The feet have over 10,000 nerve endings that correspond to different organs and glands in the body. Reflexology applies thumb pressure and specific massage techniques to these points, creating energy pathways in the body and alleviating ailments.
What are the benefits of Reflexology?
- Stress and anxiety relief
- Pain relief
- Boost your immune system
- Fight off colds and bacterial infections
- Reduce sinus problems
- Reduce back problems
- Change hormonal imbalances
- Overcome infertility
- Reduce digestion problems
- Reduce arthritic pain
- Reduce nerve tingling and numbness from cancer drugs (peripheral neuropathy).
What to expect for your Reflexology treatment at Gaia
Your reflexology session will be 60 or 90 minutes, depending on your preference. Throughout your treatment, our Reflexologist will ask you about your health, lifestyle and medical history. You will lie comfortably on a massage table, head supported by a pillow.
The treatment begins with a luxurious foot bath and exfoliation to stimulate the nerve endings and warm the feet… It’s so relaxing and soothing! Your Reflexologist will then begin to apply gentle pressure to your feet or hands to balance and relax the nervous system and stimulate the body’s own healing process.
Throughout the treatment, your Reflexologist may feel tenderness, sensitivity or crunchy areas and treat these areas as an indication of where the body needs restoration of balance. Any discomfort will be relieved by specific techniques that your Reflexologist applies and often subsides completely leaving you in a state of pure bliss.
Is Reflexology suitable for everyone?
Of course! Reflexology is non-invasive and comfortable to receive, and everyone can reap the benefits of this treatment. However, there are some contraindications to reflexology:
- Inflammation and blood clots in the leg veins (Thrombosis)
- Foot ulcers
- Fungal conditions of the feet such as athlete’s foot
- Low platelet count, which means you may bruise or bleed more easily
